The Syariah Court plays an important role in upholding justice based on Syara' Law and the provisions of the law in force. Throughout its 25 years of establishment, various improvements have been implemented including strengthening the judiciary through various Acts/Orders as well as procedural laws and regulations that have been enforced. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Besar, Chief Syar'ie Judge, stated the matter at the Opening Ceremony of the Syariah Courts Open Day 2026 in conjunction with the Syariah Courts' Silver Jubilee Celebration, 19th May morning.

Yang Berhormat said with the increasing jurisdiction that has been expanded and improved, especially after the enforcement of the Syariah Penal Code, Chapter 275 and the Syariah Courts Criminal Procedure Code, Chapter 224 which is entrusted to be implemented in the Syariah Court, has made the Syariah Court the focus and attention of legal practitioners not only from the archipelago judiciary but also international legal practitioners and foreign diplomats. The Syariah Court also strengthens and empowers services and case management as well as the application of digital technology in delivering quality services.

The opening of the Syariah Courts Open Day was officiated by the Chief Syar'ie Judge. Also held was the launch of the Book Celebrating the Silver Jubilee of 25 Years of the Establishment of the Syariah Courts. Held for two days until the 20th of May, at the Brunei High Court And Syariah Courts Building, Bandar Seri Begawan, the Open Day is filled with various attractive and informative activities including interactive exhibitions, information sessions on court jurisdiction and services as well as service clinics. The event is open to the public from 8.00 in the morning to 12 noon and 1.30 to 4.30 in the afternoon.
